OT: What color is blond(e)? (was Re: anti-Sanskritism and more)

How do you understand blond(e)? I am considered to have dark or golden
blond(e) hair (dark blond being very common here, golden and red
highlights not quite so). Says so in my passport, even. Looking at hair-
coloring products, if it is made in Europe, my hair mostly resembles what
is called (dark|golden) blond, but if it is made in the US, my hair is
suddenly called brown... but brown hair doesn't bleach in the sun, or
does it?
