new words gu leòr . . .
1.
maggel |baca bnageyl| /'batSa 'magel/
maggelity |balca bnageyl| /'baltSa 'magel/
these are the formal terms. in informal speech you
might well say |bangel| /'baNgEl/ |bangell| /'baNgEl:/
2.
we've been having a bit of wind here today ( the sun
newspaper described it in typical tabloid hyperbole as
a 'horror hurricane' . . . a few felled branches and
the odd dislodged slate ) anyway, this seems as good
an excuse as any for a few words for disorder. i'm
shamelessly stealing the french word 'tohu-bohu' which
i seem to remember is hebrew in origin :
disorder, confusion |tohbay| /'tOvbaj/
chaos ( physicist meaning and also general ) |tohboy|
/'tOvboj/
mild disorganisation |tohbey| ['tOvbEj] / ['tOvbe]
entropy |tohbory| /tOvbOrj/
scattiness |tohbely| /'tOvbElj/
scene of chaos, 'bomb-site' |atohby| /'atOvbj/
cause of chaos |tohbya| /'tOvbja/
3.
square, piazza, market place |gonbok| /'gOmbOk/
this comes from |gonbak| /'gOmbak/ which means a
clearing in the wood or other open space. it wouldn't
translate the residential squares you find a lot in
london, as they aren't really open spaces
