I don't know the average, but we had peaks at 140km/h. IIRC the windforce scale
used is the Beaufort scale, which is not based on wind speed but on its effect
on the environment.
Well, I just found this: http://www.vedur.is/english/wind_eng.html, which
answers very well your question. As you can see there, the scale goes only
until 12 (at this level, nothing can resist the wind). So it gives you a rough
idea of the actual strength of the storm we had.
And what kind of storm is it? Is it a tropical storm/hurricane?
Do we have tropical storms or hurricanes in Europe? It was just called a
violent storm by meteorologists here.
