You mean, what is the literal meaning in Latin? One who lies on top of.
So, assuming that the missionary position was vastly the norm, the incubus
is the male demon, lying on top of the mortal woman, and the succubus is the
female demon, lying under the mortal man. It's also often called "demon
lover."
incubare, "to lie down upon."
subcubare, "to lie down" (i.e., upon one's back :)
