Oh, I should have mentioned this. This was definitely an influence on me.
I loved code-breaking substitution ciphers.
Around this time, I designed one of my few alphabets, which was actually
intended for a simple LED screen with these bars:

It was just a matter of trying to get the 26 letters on to this shape.

Me too! I spent way more time designing D&D campaigns than I ever did
playing them.

ROTFL. I too designed a language like this! I called it Jibburish (!!!),
and it was spoken in the imaginary land of Jibbur (just past the Outlands,
where -- of course -- they spoke Outlandish).
