Neat idea, Peter.
Related to this, does anyone know of a web page that provides a good summary
of how grammars change through time? I'm familiar with these types of
change, but it is not much:
- The evolution of Latin _ille_ into definite articles in the Romance languages
- The loss of inflections; the reduction of cases
- The loss of irregular forms
- The fusion of postpositions with their preceding nouns to give rise to cases
I'd love to see a big cycle diagram showing how the grammar of languages can
change to and from different types.
Best regards,
Jeffrey
