Well, a little searching reveals the following:
The Visible Word
by Herbert Spencer
107 pages
Publisher: Hastings House; ISBN: 0803877331; [2d ed., rev.] edition
Amazon.com Sales Rank: 608,573
I'm quite certain it's the right book, as a search on the full title
brings up one link referring to Herbert Spencer as the author.
