Related to the agent is the instrument. Both are instigators of an
event. But while the agent is animate and volitional, the instrument
does so indirectly. Usually, the agent acts upon an instrument and
the instrument affects the action.
Similar to both of these is force. It also instigates an action, but
not with volition like an agent, and not indirectly like an
instrument. Rather, it instigates an action directly but without
volition.
Just adding a bit more to something already complicated. ;-)
