I've always been fascinated by machines and languages.
Before I was even old enough to go to school was
taking both of them apart and putting the pieces back
together in some different way just to see what would
happen.
As an engineer some of the ways I have of
understanding a machine are, watching is it action,
taking it apart, and building small working models.
I do the same with language, which I approach from an
engineering perspective. I watch them in action, I
take them apart, and I build small working models.
The ultimate goal from my persepctive is to teach a
machine to use language. I can't really claim to
understand language until I can do that.
