Actually, I've been trying to figure that out myself. I've yet to figure
out how to play .au files under Linux. Attempting to play it through a WAV
player is probably the cause of the sounds you describe. (Yes, I tried it,
that's how I know.)

I'll post more info to this list if I solve the problem.
