Hmm ... perhaps the "use the familiar form" could be simply the normal
"good bye" with "friend" added? Or perhaps some formula meaning (or a
word derived from a contraction of a phrase meaning) something like "I
have come to know you" or "Let's be as friends"?
All in all, an interesting idea. :-) Altho, I'd prefer to have the use
of formal or informal to be decided by the speaker when he/she feels
comfortable enough with the other person. :-)
