When I pronounce 40 or 14 in English they usually come out as /
´fot`i/ and /´fot`in/. I have occasionally had trouble getting across
which one of them I was intending. Especially with people who
themselves are not English speakers. I suppose I should practice
putting my stress on the last syllable of the latter.
Reminds me too of the first time I was in London. I had to take a
taxi to Watford to get to a football game because I had boarded the
wrong train at first and lost a lot of time. The taxi had taken me a
good distance when I realised we were on our way to Woodford...
