Yes indeed! A ritual that makes you act like someone you're not is a
bad ritual. Much of my prayer is conversational, and always has been.
But none of this contradicts the point that, for many of us, ritual has a
place in prayer. Not a supreme place, but a place nonetheless, as
something useful.
(BTW, Nik is absolutely right about 'Dear God'.)
