I think this is the etymon which is reconstructed as *kule- 'to
hear; ear' in EWUng (Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Ungarischen),
[For identification, derivations are: Vogul /k_wa:l/, Ostyak
/kOl/, Zyrien/Votyak /k1l/, Cheremis /kula/, Mordvin /kul'e/,
Finnish kuule-, Estonian kuul-, NLappish gulla^- 'to hear', and
uncertain Yurak /xa:/, Selkup /qo:/, Kamass /ku/ 'ear' (possible
cognates: Yukaghir /xol/ 'voice', Uighur /qulGak/ 'ear')]
It would be another topic for hot debates: wheather PU/PFU had
long vowels or not.
