I don't know about other people, but at least I've always pronounced them
that way, and other people I know have too. It's actually not special. "gg"
is not a digraph, just two "g"s following each other, one pronounced [g]
because it is followed by a consonant, the other pronounced [Z] because it
is followed by an "e".
