This thread reminds me of another question:

Suppose I read something interesting here and want to bring it to a friend's
attention.  Presumably, I could sent a note referring to the archive web page
where my friend could find the message.  Would it be an etiquette violation to
just forward the interesting message itself by email?  For various reasons,
that might be more convenient, and it would seem to accomplish the same thing.
(Since the list archives are on the web, I would think there can't be any
expectation of privacy). But perhaps someone sees a distinction here, and maybe I
shouldn't forward without permission from the author.

Perhaps some long-term list members know the general etiquette on this.
