Herbert's entire thesis (as he stated years later) was to illustrate how
horribly destructive messianic movements are. This is best brought out
by reading both "Dune" and "Dune Messiah"--indeed, I consider "Dune" to
be unfinished without "Dune Messiah". "Children of Dune" is really
another theme altogether. It and "God-Emperor of Dune" make another
coupled book. After "God-Emperor", it become more of a franchise.
