Any Tone Languages Out There?

Hi,

Is anyone out there working on a tone language?

I'm thinking of changing one of my languages to a tone language,
probably a register tone language with no more than three tones.

I'm wondering what phonemic tone does to stress.

I get the impression that, in Chinese, most of the syllables are long
enough so that that tones can be heard. Short unstressed tones get neutral
tone, I suppose, but aren't there still a lot of spondees in Chinese? I
don't really know, I could very easily be wrong about all this.

Anyway, Chinese is a contour tone language.

Anyone know about phonemic tones in register tone languages vis a vis
stress?

Jim
