Depending on your dialect, it's /e/, /ej/, or /Ej/. Maybe it's even /Ei/.
If your tongue and teeth do not move when you say it and you can draw it
out with no change in sound, it's probably /e/. And it's possibly
something quite different.
And I always think that "ay" represents /ai/ as in "eye, surprise, pie"
rather than /Ej/.
