Hi
That's a huge topic for so small a sentence ; ).
For my brazilian ears it sounds _very_ awkward. We are quite free to use
adjectives as adverbs 'ele foi alegre para casa', he went home happy, the
same as 'ele foi para casa alegremente' he went home happily. Prescriptive
grammars, if I remember well ; ), say that the -mente dropping makes
improper the use of the adjective as an adverb... I myself think that the
adjective is attached to the subject (ele, alegre, foi para casa), in this
case, and not wrong even by prescriptive standards.
But this sentence sounds just wrong.
Edgard.
