Just double-checking in my local (S.Fla. but not Miami) phone book, I find
lots of variation between final z/s-- obviously variation within Spanish, tho
some -s forms may be Brazilian.
Surely this name-forming procedure has been studied (probably long ago!).
What is interesting is how few of them are Latinate or obviously Germanic
