One of my languages used to be all CV, and now it can have coda consonants. Here's what happened:
1.) /lu, ru/ > [l, r]
2.) /siV, si#/ > [S]
Then there are a bunch of "fix-it" rules. Here's an example:
*kaluta > kalta
*masi > maS
*runa > *rna > rauna (though it could have just as easily become /arna/ or /erna/)
Also, identical sequences were deleted. So whereas...
*sisi > *SiS
What happens is...
*sisi > *si > Si
Same thing with...
*karuru > *karr (bad!)
*karuru > *karu > kar
And all the ideas everyone else has given have been great.
