Well, last week I bought an interesting book about the early history of
conlanging:
M.M. Slaughter, "Universal language and scientific taxonomy in the seventeenth
century" (Cambridge, 1982). I haven't even started to read it yet, but it looks
like it is full of information about Bacon, Comenius, Wilkins, Dalgarno,
Newton, and others.
Does somebody know this book?
In general, I think "History of conlanging" could be an important component of
such a course, starting from Hildegard von Bingen, via the 17th century guys,
Zamenhof, Tolkien, etc, to our times.

Wow, I'm flattered!
I can't see any misspelling, except for the fact that Dirk's Tepa is now called
"Miamipoquitch" (I hope I got that right).
