First, my apologies. I was not trying to correct your manners. The
remark about geekiness was just a lame joke which you were obviously
not in any mood to appreciate. The advice about not emailing in anger
was just that, friendly advice from someone who has sent rash emails
on occasion with less than optimal results.
So let me see if I understand what happened. You went to the website
of a bookseller, ordered a book, and clicked a button or link on that
bookseller site that said "Pay with PayPal" or similar. To all
appearances, you then logged into PayPal - successfully, despite
entering the wrong password - and completed the transaction. But the
book arrived with the balance still due, and there's no record of the
transaction on your PayPal account.
Chances are, then, no damage was done. The phishers took your
incorrect password, which won't let them take any money out of your
account.
You should notify both PayPal and the bookseller - they may not be
complicit in the fraud. But chances are you haven't actually paid
anybody for the book yet, so you should make arrangements to do that.
