I have the same problem when I hear the Dutch spoken by my boyfriend: the sound
transcribed in Dutch by <w> sounds in my boyfriend's mouth like [v] or [w]
depending on the word, and the strangest thing is that I usually get it the
other way round than him (that's to say, when I try to imitate him, if I put a
[v], he corrects me by making a [w], and vice-versa). Does Dutch use a
labiodental approximant for the letter <w>?
