Years ago, I found it imprudent to use gendered terms like "guys" re: mixed
groups or all female groups due to the (not fully unfounded) vehement
feminist response. Which is why I stick to "y'all" or "you" or "they".
Because of similar feminist response, I mentally place "girls" or "girlz"
in a category similar to (but less socially locked than) forms such as
"faggot" and "nigga". Being gay, were I to say "faggot" it'd be potentially
less volatile than a straight man saying it; similarly with a woman saying
"girls".
