I remember discussing this with some Polynesians several months ago (when I
found out Cherokee had it) and, supposedly, some Polynesian languages have
it as well.

As far I know it's an Amerind feature, but it exists in another
Amerind phyla, e.g. Algonquin and certain Penutian (Maidu)
languages have it.
