So do I in principle, although I repeatedly find myself doing just that. Since I have a problem with making up original-sounding vocabulary I used a generator (which I much to my own surprise managed to write in Perl! :-) to make the vocabulary of Sahlab. The generator assigned random sequences of one to three well-formed syllables to a list of "glosses", and I simply took the word glossed 'language' and let it be the name of the lang. This has changed a good deal, however: now _sahl_ [saK] is the name of a great lake near the center of the area where the lang is spoken, and unincidentally also the mythological name of the Primeval Ocean, while _-ab_ is a suffix denoting 'thing characteristic of...' -- or in this case 'language of...'. /BP 8^)> -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:bpX@netg.se (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /Melarokko\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angelmiel \ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
