This is a bit of a hotchpotch but I found these inspiring:
Friedrich, Indo-European Trees
(A comparative study of tree-roots (ha!! In both senses) across IE
languages)
Kuno Meyer (I think)
A concise comparative Celtic grammar
E. Benveniste
Universals of language
(Can't remember the author)
Prolegomena to a grammar of Basque
On general cultural/linguistic/poetic matters...
Bruno Bettelheim, The uses of enchantment (Sure about author, but slightly
unsure about title)
There's also a really good collection of essays by Roger Wescott et al on
Proto-linguistics whose title escapes me!
Apologies for the scanty info, but all of this is from memory. I know most
of the titles are correct, though.
