Sanskrit and IIRC Greek distinguished several: N+N, Adj+Adj, Adj+N (or vice versa), V+N, N+V (different I think), perhaps Adv+V ("quick-dry") There are Skt. names for most if not all, and IIRC Ray Brown posted about this a year or 2 or 3 back. Try searching for "bahuvrihi" or "dvandva" (two of the Skt. terms I recall) in the Listserv Archive.
