For what it's worth, the native speaker here still distinguishes
between "pâtes" and "pattes" and "âme" and "flamme". *And* she also
maintains "brun" vs. "brin". But she's my age (40 sump'n), and doin'
the expat thang, so we'll just sit here in our cranky little
conservative French enclave and warp young minds.
