I think it's because "one" is at the same time a pronoun and the noun=20
specialized in deriving verbs and adjectives into nouns of attributees.=20
Adjectives in Romance languages are used as nouns : "el rojo", "le rouge" (a=

"the red one", not "the red color"), whereas in English you need "one" as a=20
specialized noun to make such noun (except for specific use such as "the=20
blacks and the whites").=20
