Hello all--
I'm new to the list, but I've building conlangs since the 60's (and thinking
I was the only nut case inflicted with this peculiar form of insanity.)
If I may offer a few observations...
>What if it was taken to the nth degree, and EVERY
>noun that described something capable of being possessed
>had a different word for it: My book, but your scroll, his
>tome. Of course this would be wildly impractical, and
>counterproductive, but in such a system one could say
>"book," "scroll," "tome" and do away with the possessive
>pronouns altogether!
What if something as simple as a vowel somewhere within the word that takes
on various values to denote who posses the object? Say, for example, that
the word "dashni" means "generic widget", then "doshni" might me "my
widget". And when you run out of simple vowels, perhaps toss in a dipthong
(although I generally dislike the sound of dipthongs), or an extra syllable.
"dobashni" might then mean "their widget".
If a simple and consistent scheme were devised then that would save you the
labor of creating unique words for each case.
BTW: I like what I've seen so far of Teonaht. Any notion of when the
glossary might begin to emerge on your web site?
