In Sturnan, naturally, if you say "Momas palkem" (meat cook-1sing.pres), you're saying "I'm cooking meat". It wouldn't be grammatically incorrect to say "Momas palkag" for "[someone] cooks the meat", but that's falling out of fashion lately. People are ditching simplicity just to be understood better--can you believe it? So now "Momas o palkag" is being said. It includes the passive marker which, I think, will affect initial vowels. To hijack the thread, how would that passive marker /o/ affect consonants? Labialization? That could lead to /k/ > /p/ as part of the mutation. How would other sounds be affected? Might it also change /p/ in the same mutation? ~Wright
