I don't think linguistic semantics is a semiotic system. I think
linguistic semantics is the semantic *component* of a semiotic system. As
such, I don't think this semiotic system is any different (formally,
qualitatively) from any other semiotic system that operates in a mind or
collection thereof (as opposed to operating in a liver cell or sodium atom
or collections thereof). This is the case in my brand of semiotics, at
least.
