On the other hand, _noone_'s ever heard of any of those other towns! I don't mean to belittle those towns or the folk in them, but there is simply no comparison between Paris, TX and Paris. _The_ Paris. No bloody ", France" needed! Yes, when speaking of all the Parises in the US, it is certainly a good idea to specify which state the city is in. Simply, there are some cities that need no qualifiers. Paris, London, Athens, Atlanta, Chicago, Holywood, Washington.
