your are right and you are wrong.
both terms are mixed up, and superposed.
opinions are treated as statements and statements sometimes as
opinions.
i just try to keep them apart, as two different meanings.
i try to define them, if not for the status quo, then just for my
conlang.
its abit similar to the gap between the terms "wish" and "want".
a wish is not weaker but something you dont transact into reality with
effort.
a will/want you try to transact into reality, you want to make it
happen and you act for it.
will=desire of a person who tends to act for it.
wish=desire of a person who doesnt tend to act for it.
and:
opinion=utterance which doesnt claim to be true for everyone
statement=utterance which claims to be true for everyone
