It's closer to /tOu r\ei/ IMO, and it means "People of Ra", Ra (or Re) being the Goa'uld
who ruled the planet Abydos (and formerly Earth, too) in the Stargate movie.
The Tokra were originally /to:k r\A/ (or thereabouts) which was once claimed to mean
"Opponents of Ra", but I'm not sure if that ever stuck.
SG1 is one of the few shows I'm a complete nerd about. Somewhere, I have a Goa'uld /
English dictionary and phrasebook that I had been monkeying together, but I think I may
have lost it over the years.
