I have, unfortunately, I can't remember the language. However, this
was, IIRC, merely a form of progressive nasalization, so that it was an
allophone, something like [kana~j~a~pa], where the rule was that
nasalization continued forward until it reached a stop.

I assume you mean [w_0] and [j_0]? I don't know of any dialects that
have a phonemic [j_0], and I don't think you've said you have phonemic
[w_0], either.
