Yeah, it's probably your being non-teutophone. =P As far
as I can tell, |e| and only |e| can schwaify in German,
and does so consistently. That's the reason why, unlike
native speakers, Germans never spell "definite" as
"definate" and "capital" as "capitol", or confound "effect"
and "affect".
