You know, until this year, most of my classmates in French had a similar problem
with accents (I don't know what an umlaut does, but I'm guessing it's something
to do with pronunciation, obviously). They'd either completely ignore the acute
accent over e's, pronouncing it as if it were an unaccented e, or they'd switch
the two pronunciations, which to me is very weird. Of course, that doesn't
happen in the class I'm in this year, because only people who are very
interested in fluency even bother to go all four years of high school. (Which
is not to say that the 5 people, including myself, in my French IV class don't
make pronunciation mistakes, of course. It's just we try a little harder, and
have a better understanding of it in general.)
As for FLOES... hmm. I honestly don't think I have a problem with it, except that
sometimes I'll say a French word when I mean an English one.. but not too
often.
