Well, you can listen to how native speakers of languages with small
vocalic inventories pronounce English:
If i know my own English well enough my vowel inventory changed to a 5
vowel system would be:
(i'm using SAMPA)
a > a
& > a
V > a
@ > a
e > e
E > e
i > i
I > i
o > o
u > u
This is mostly how i make fun of my granmother (or as she would say: Dis
is hau ai mek pan ab mai grandmader)
Hmm..... i may be missing a couple of vowels. I don't use /O/ i know for
sure. Well whatever, you get the idea.
You can also condense a 5 vowel system down to 3:
a > a
i > i
e > i
o > u
u > u
