T,
Well, the things on the Glide site need the flash/shockwave plugin, no
getting around it. Easy to download at the macromedia site. I know what
you're saying--gratuitous eye-candy gets tiresome very quickly. But I used
these means not only for "cool design" (though I can't deny that) but
because the essence of the Glide writing system is that it is dynamic. It
moves and changes, it needs animation tools and display. These
tools--animation, movement, morphability--that are enabled by the CPU, by
the medium of the computer, to me open up new possibilities for linguistic
systems, and therefore new ways of making meaning, and it is this that I am
trying to explore.
The invitation is there, the ticket is free, but yes, you will have to step
into the boat.
You will be warmly welcomed.
Best,
Diana
