Weston Ruter has available online an "IPA Keyboard" that lets you
click on Unicode IPA symbols. It builds up a string of the symbols for
you to easily copy-paste elsewhere. This site is at:
http://www.linguiste.org/phonetics/ipa/chart/keyboard/
I've used it off and on for a while now, and it's quite useful for
posting to the conlang forums, where Unicode is more standardly
accepted. He has IPA chart t-shirts for sale to help support the site,
but I decided I didn't really want a shirt. In the interest of
supporting free utilities I find useful, I decided to donate $5 to him
via his PayPal link.
I got an email back from him thanking me. He said that for the *two
years* that he has run the IPA Keyboard site, I am the *first person*
to ever donate anything. His email was very friendly, and it's really
a shame that no one else has ever donated.
So, this email is going out there to anyone else who really
appreciates the IPA Keyboard site. $1 or $5 or whatever would probably
be a nice token of support, if you feel so inclined.
Disclaimer: I had never talked to Weston Ruter before I donated $5 to
him, and he did not suggest that I try to "drum up business" for him.
I do this because I really think he has a good site and is
underappreciated.
Apologies in advance if this email offends anyone for whatever reason.
