So TOTO would be the first French metasyntactic variable name ("metavariable" for short). The most common English series begins FOO, BAR; it then diverges somewhat, but again the most common continuation is BAZ, QUUX, and some people continue by inserting Us, thus QUUUX, QUUUUX, etc. These are only for temporary files, generic examples in doc, etc. If you use such names for anything important you deserve to have it deleted. :) http://www.clueless.com/jargon3.0.0/metasyntactic_variable.html -Mark
