Now you've seen it used in Jameld too.<G> It's the standard spelling of the
name in Jameld, as in the biblical disciple's name, and it preserves the Old
Jameld word-final spelling of [u:] which elsewhere became _ü_. And yes,
_Smeth_ is Jameld for "smith" (cf. OFris _smith_).
FWIW, I rather like the name "Ill Bethisad" for *there* (although I've
always felt "*there*" was particularly cool, too). However, I think perhaps
Jameld is best set in its own timespace. My feeling about it was always that
the Jameld version of reality was the same as *here*, except for the
existence of the _Jamelt~ses_ (and possibly the Sevorians, but they require
topological changes to the Baltic...), and that is reflected in many of the
writings; I'd hate to find that any of that was incompatible with
established Bethisad history and have to unpick it.
