In one of the _Best of Star Trek_ essay/whatever collections, someone did
what looked like a phonological analysis (I'm sorry; I read it in like
8th grade, when I didn't know what phonology really *was*) and came to
the conclusion that the sounds or structure or whatever didn't match with
Vulcan, but either matched with *Romulan* or Romulan was the most
"logical" choice of a common language, given Saavik's background.
