Re: Back!

I'm back in the UK again, for a while, having been dislocated from the list
since the middle-ish of March. My appologies for dissapearing so
unannouncedly, I hadn't expected to be away for more than a day or two.
Imagine my surprise (and chagrin) when I found that I'd been gone more than
a month! :-)

Halooo!!!! to everybody!

I'm about 3% caught up on the list so far, the last discussion I recall
reading was about the 10th anniversary. ISTR It was scheduled for June
2001 (the 16th?), were any more detailed plans or discoveries than that
made?

I've not been sitting idly by while I've been away. I've been busily
working away on Thagojian and trying to polish off a few rough edges on
Wenetaic, though without much luck on the latter.

So, erm, yeah... Thagojian... Where do I start? The phoneme inventory is
still very large, but also still very regular. *Most* of the notion of
(supra-)celtic-style consonant mutation has been left by the wayside. Word
Order is basically Topic-initial, V2 and in all other respects typically
VO, although I've had to cheat a little to get the desired effect... ;-)

Much use is made of a nasty little bugger best known as the Linking
Particle, which is formed by *both* mutation and ablaut can technically
consist of *any* possible syllable in the language (yuck). Thankfully it
can only exist as a prefix and in certain specific, expected contexts,
although I toyed with making it more maneuverable before I came to my
senses.

I can't write more about the LP at this time of the night (morning), but
suffice to say for now that it can turn 'the dog sees' into 'the dog
watches' and 'the red hat' into 'the redness of the hat', though it's uses
are many more in number (somewhere near 12000 subtle and not so subtle
context-sensitive nuances, if memory serves!).

I'm preparing a more detailed wossname on the LP, but it's a biggish job,
so for now I'll be happy to answer questions with examples if any are
forthcoming, until I can get it straight.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind at any point and post a
summary of some of its uses shoudl I decide to. :-)
