If pandas be bears, why not "mawxoq"? It is a word, and more intuitive than
"xoqmaw". Don't remember who says which (mainland maoxiong/Taiwan xiongmao?). I
heard anecdotally that xiongmao arose from someone reading the characters
backwards. Who knows. This, like "tomato", seems to be part of the
foreigner-will-not-win collection. Better to let the native speaker introduce
the concept and follow suit than to go for it and get the inevitable "oh, we
say it *this* way" (they only eat dumplings in the north) (though I *will* not
relent, Taiwan speakers, on "fermented soybeans"; "dou4gu3" is just wrong,
wrong, wrong).
ceqli = establish?
May = plum blossom?
Kou = Ring des Nibelungen ;-)
