Yep, tho in other families it's Jonas' son, by haplology I know for a fact that my grandfather's gret-grandfather was Jon Andersson.

Barukh ben-Yohhanan I already know, and it'll have to do. Maybe "horseman" could be used as a loose translation of Philhippos, so that my son becomes Horseman ben-Yohhanan. FWIW my own Persianization of Philip is Dostasp "Friend-of-Horse".

"Susa'i" sounds right to me. Does it to Hebraists too? Any clue of the Arabic equivalent, since that would make me both ibn-<Whatever> and abu-<Whatever>! :-) OTOH I always thought that the Sindarin form "Melroch" sounds kinda Persian, so maybe it can pass in Hebrew too? /BP 8^)> -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:bpX@netg.se mailto:melrochX@mail.com (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /Melarocco\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine__ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angelmiel\ \_____/ / a/ /_adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Cuinondil~~~\_______/~~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda cuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
